WALKING IN THE LIGHT
Isaiah 2:5 says, “O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.” Light means a number of things: the word of God (Psalm 119:105), the paths of God (Isaiah 2:3), and it also means love. Generally speaking, light is anything that proceeds from God, because God is light. James 1:17 calls Him the Father of lights, and 1 John 1:5 says, “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” Today, we are considering light as love.
First, you must understand that you cannot walk in the light without first being made light. In other words, to walk in the light you must first become light. That should be easy to understand. Ephesians 5:8 says, “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.” We were born again by the word of God; that’s how we became light. To walk in the light you must first be born again. If you are not born again, I urge you to immediately receive Jesus into your heart. Repent of your sins, believe that God raised Him from the dead, and confess Him as Lord of your life. Amen.
John wrote, “The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” 1 John 2:6 NASB. How did Christ walk? He walked in love. Ephesians 5:1-2 says, “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” And 1 John 2:9&10 says, “The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him.”
Today, God is asking us to walk in love towards fellow men and towards Him. The hatred, abuse, malice, jealousy, envy, gossiping, backbiting, jesting, manipulation, injustice, maltreatment, etc, has got to stop. Walk in love – help the needy, support the weak, speak kindly to others and about others, forgive, endure, tolerate and understand. Cheers.
