UNLOCKING THE DOORS OF BLESSINGS

1 Peter 3:9 says we were called to inherit or obtain a blessing. As you may know, blessing is to confer prosperity or happiness upon a person, it refers to favour, it comes with approval and it protects. To bless means to do or give something of value to another. Proverbs 10:22 says that the blessing of the Lord makes rich and that He, God, adds no sorrow or trouble with it. So, how many of us Christians are truly enjoying the blessing of God? What we have are Christians deep in debt, sick Christians, weak Christians, and troubled Christians. How many of us are truly different from the rest of the world? But one thing is certain – God cannot lie, and His word is forever yea and amen. God does bless His children: but we must learn how to receive His blessings. Jesus was teaching one day, and a woman in the crowd screamed, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” Jesus immediately replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” In those few words are the secrets or keys to unlocking the doors of divine blessing: it is as simple as it sounds – obey the word of God! And that’s exactly what Isaiah 1:19 says, “If you consent and obey, you will eat the best of the land.” James 1:25 NASB says, “But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.” The question then is, Are you an effectual doer of the word? Note that doing some of what God says and ignoring the others won’t qualify you for His blessings. I urge you today to be an effectual doer of the word wherever you are; as the world becomes more and more rebellious to God and His ways, refuse to be one of those who embraces the things that God detests. May God grant you the grace to do all His will and greatly bless you for it. Amen.

  1. Amen. The insight is very clear. Embrace not the things that God detests and while at it, pray for grace to do ALL His will. It is easy by the GRACE of God.
