Loving People Who Have Hurt You

II Samuel 4:9-10 NKJV "But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, “As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from all adversity, when someone told me, saying, ‘Look, Saul is dead,’ thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag—the one who thought I would give him a reward for his news."

You know what Saul did to David, today, we would say that Saul made David pass through hell. You also know what Joseph's brothers did to him; they sold him as a slave, again, making him pass through hell, serving as a slave in a foreign land, yet these men bore no grudges.

Here's what Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’  But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,  that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust."

It's certainly not easy is we are living by the flesh; the flesh wants to pay back, but we mustn't; we must manifest the fruit of the Spirit, the first being love. I Corinthians 13:5-6 says that love does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth. You see, love will not seek to avenge itself, love doesn't even get provoked by the painful acts of others! Love doesn't wish that bad things happen to people and instead of rejoicing when it bad things have happened to those who hurt us, love is never happy about it.

You have the nature of God in you; you can love like Him!
