THE KEYS OF THE KINGDOM
Matthew 16:19 NKJV "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of
heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and
whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
In the United States, people are awarded with the Key To The City. In old times, the key was given to trusted visitors
and deserving citizens of a kingdom to show that they were free to
enter and leave the kingdom through the gates at any time. They had
become trusted friends. But in the verse above, the keys of the kingdom
refers to divine authority vested upon a person.
Now, with the
keys of the kingdom, Jesus said that whatever is bound on earth will be
bound in heaven, and that whatever is loosed on earth will be loosed in
heaven. In other words, whatever is forbidden or prohibited or
disallowed on earth will be forbidden, prohibited and disallowed in
heaven, and vice versa. Awesome!
Someone says Jesus was
talking to Peter alone. That's not true. Jesus repeated those words to
everyone in Matthew 18:18-19, “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you
bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth
will be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you that if two of you agree on
earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My
Father in heaven." Come on! What do you want to happen or not happen?
You are waiting for God to do something, He's waiting for you to say
something! Use the keys!
