YOU NEED KNOWLEDGE
King Solomon told a story: “This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me: There was a little city, and a few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered the same poor man. Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.” Ecclesiastes 9:13-16.
I was troubled by the above. Why was the wise man ignored despite what he did for the city? The answer is because he was poor. Why was he poor despite being wise? This is the one that got me concerned. Think about it for a moment. There are many wise men and women in our world today, many great preachers and teachers, many brilliant guys full of ideas that can change our world, but who have no voice and are unknown today. Why? Because there are poor. But why are they poor? Why can’t their wisdom be converted to riches?
You won’t know the answer until you discover the difference between wisdom and knowledge. Let me help a little. Wisdom is simply the ability to discern and judge what is right and true. And knowledge is simply information obtained through observation, experience and learning. Let me explain further with examples. There are people who can analyse football matches; they can tell you what to do to win, but can’t play football. Here’s another example: a wise man can tell that moving with a car will get you to your destination faster than walking with your legs, but a man of knowledge can drive the car and achieve the desired results. Do you understand?
Now, Proverbs 24:3-5 says, “Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: and by knowledge shall it be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.” So, the poor wise man in Solomon’s story was poor because he lacked knowledge. You need knowledge.
