Spirit and Life Devotional: The Life of a Soldier

THE LIFE OF A SOLDIER

Being a soldier is said to be about living the army values which are: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honour, integrity and personal courage. They are referred to as the Seven Core Army Values, and living them is said to be living up to a higher standard. A soldier is either fighting or preparing himself for a fight.

The Scripture calls us soldiers. And as soldiers of Jesus Christ, there are two critical success factors: the ability to endure and the ability to discipline one's self. 2 Timothy 2:3-4 says, "You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier."

It's clear from the above that as soldiers we must give up certain things in order to please Christ. As soldiers we must live a continual life of sacrifice. And as soldiers we must always be prepared for war, for we must be stronger than all strong men out there if we will overcome them and divide their spoils (Luke 11:21-22).

The best thing about being a soldier of Jesus Christ is that we are not left to fight alone; He is always with us. Fear therefore is absolutely unnecessary. When we tread upon serpents and scorpions, nothing shall by any means hurt us. Victory is always certain, greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. When we come in the name of Jesus, satan is bound to flee!

Good morning soldier!
